Thanks for the sweet spreadsheet.
I am really enjoying this, it’s the first spreadsheet I’ve used and I am very impressed! I’m just glad I didn’t have to make my own.
I have to let you know that you saved me HOURS of having to set this thing up for myself….. Thanks for leaving it unlocked so that we can make our own modifications.
Your welcome. I really enjoyed making it and have enjoyed getting peoples feedback. Thanks.
Wow this is super cool! I’ve been trying to figure out a simple way of doing inventory on my coins, Then “BAM” here it is. Thanks Allan.
Thanks. Let me know if you think I can make it better in any way.
Very nice sheets. Looks like commemoratives are missing. Have you thought about adding these to your sheets?
I haven’t thought much about it since I personally come across only coins in circulation. However, it probably wouldn’t be to difficult to add them in. Are you talking about coins like this and this?
Well, It’s now 2010……. My original copy of your sheet was awesome. But just recently I had to reformat my hard drive. Now I find your sheet again, but this time it is locked and I can’t make the necessary adjustments for my personal collection.
Any help?
If you are using Excel 07 then click on the review tab, then simply click “Unprotect”. There is no password, so thats all you need to do. If its Excel 03, then the idea is the same but the exact steps will be a little different.
Thanks for the software, it is very nice. I cant seem to find a place for Morgan dollars, can you point out where I add them?
You would add them onto the “The Coin Collection” tab. You need to unprotect that sheet, but there is no password, so just hit unprotect. As the Morgan dollars are pre 1900 you would have to add in the years, mints, and other info yourself. I’ll probably add them at some point in the future, but it could be a year before I get around to it, so don’t wait for me
. If you need any more help let me know. Also, they won’t be included in any formulas so you’d have to add that yourself. To get them in the tables on the “Don’t Have By Year” tab, just click the dollar pivot table, and find the options tab (in excel 2007 and 10) and click change data source, there you can adjust the range of cells that the pivot table is pulling its data from. Hope that helps.
Thanks a lot for the incredible spreadsheet! Happy holidays!
Amazing! Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
I have been using this spreadsheet and I think it is great.
What is your suggestion for the easiest transition from an older version to the new 2011 without re-entering the data?
Thanks!
That is a very good question. To date I haven’t dealt with it, except when I have to update my empty spreadsheet for the new year. Currently do to that you would have to insert rows for the new years above the current year, then you could copy and paste from the spreadsheet with the new years info. After that is done you may have to adjust the formulas that calculate the statistics or the pivot tables (the don’t have lists). I can’t remember exactly, but I think that they should be ok because there formula starts with the title rows, so inserted rows in the middle should automatically included.
I have tried multiple times to download this spreadsheet and all I seem to get is a zip file containing many XML files. What am I doing wrong?
I still haven’t figured out what is going on when that happens. But if it happens again fill out my contact form and I will email it to you.
I can’t get the “Don’t have by year” to work. I entered all my coins, but it keeps showing me that I haven’t collected anything. I tried to figure out how to make it work, but the spreadsheet is outsmarting me. Please help.
Story of my life….I posted asking for help, and then the very next thing I tried fixed it…
Glad to hear it, I was just getting onto to offer a suggestion when I saw your second comment. Let me know if you need anything else.
The “Don’t have by year” tab is not working for me either. It shows I still need all the coins. Can you share the solution you used to make that tab work?
Thanks!
-Ryan
It is a bunch of pivot tables, which is semi complicated. I’ll email you about it.
