I’ve also made a macro that will insert 2012 coins into your current spreadsheet. Hopefully this will make it even easier to move the your coins and the new coins together.

In the hopes of letting people know when the next year’s spreadsheet and macro are ready I’ve set up a mailing list, that you can find over in the sidebar. If you want to be informed when the new spreadsheet is ready then simply put in your email and I’ll send you a message when 2013′s is ready.

Additionally I’ve thought about making a coin collecting android app. I’ve made one Android app so far, but it was fairly simple. This will be a much bigger undertaking that won’t probably happen until the summer, if at all. But regardless I will use the email list to inform people of my progress and when it will be released.

In 1921 Morgan dollars were minted in Philadelphia (44,690,000 coins), Denver (20,345,000), and San Francisco (21,685,000) with no mint mark, D, and S respectively. Over the years of production the Morgan dollar was also minted in Carson City and New Orleans, denoted with the CC and O mint marks. The 1921 Peace dollar was also minted in Philadelphia (1,006,473) but did not start being minted in Denver and San Francisco until 1922.

Along with the Morgan and Peace silver dollars the mint produced other coins: Wheat Penny, Indian Head Nickel, Mercury Dime,Standing Liberty Quarter (type 2), and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar.

Silver Shortage

During World War II there was a silver shortage that caused many silver dollars and other coins to be melted for the silver they contained. This caused a large decrease in the number of 1921 silver dollars in circulation.

Again in the 1960s another silver shortage hit the US causing more coins to be reduced to raw silver and again lowering the number of coins available to collectors.

1921 Silver Dollar Prices

Because the Peace Silver Dollar is so rare and the Morgan Silver Dollar is so plentiful the prices are quite different. Peace dollars can be anywhere from just over $100 to many thousands of dollars. Where as Morgan dollars can start around $35 and go up from there. The price of the Morgan dollar can be linked with how much silver costs per ounce, so the higher silver is the more the Morgan dollar will be.

I will first talk about gold potentially being in a bubble.  Then I will explain how you can play this with online stock market trading without having to enter the commodities market.

The first question you need to ask is if gold is currently in a bubble.  The nature of bubbles is when it is overvalued.  It’s fairly easy to see in things where the intrinsic value can be calculated.  That means when the price soars way above its fundamental value.

So that is what makes defining a bubble in gold very difficult.  You see, no one really knows the fundamental value of gold.  Other than the fact that people like to make jewelry with it, it has very little value otherwise.  The only thing it has going for it is that is has been the hard currency of the world for the last 4,000 years.

There is another thing that is a downside to investing in gold.  It tends to have high costs associated with it.  If you buy gold bullion or any amount of it in any form, you have to store it somewhere.  If you want enough to be worthwhile, you need to have it secured.  That means you usually have to pay someone to keep it for you.  That’s not to mention the transaction costs for buying and selling it.

One of the best gold investment advice for small investors is to use gold ETF’s.  This way, you don’t have to go open a new commodity brokerage account.  Right from your online stock trading platform, you can trade gold like it’s a stock.

If you are planning to invest on gold IRAs, seek the assistance of your IRA provider and ask the custodian if your current retirement account is capable for gold investments. You can always start a new gold-silver IRA if your current account does not have this capability. Because you may actually add gold to various types of Individual Retirement Accounts such as traditional IRA, Roth IRA, simplified employee pension IRA, and simplified incentive match plans for employees IRA, it is better to choose the one that is handled by a custodian who is experienced with gold investments.

If you open a new silver-gold IRA, certain documents must be submitted to the new IRA provider. In addition, a storage fee for the gold coins that you will hold in your account is required, since the IRS rules state that the gold must be stored at an approved depository which must not be in the same location with your IRA custodian. When all this is completed, you can easily transfer money from your existing Individual retirement Account to fund your new silver-gold IRA. Then you can buy gold coins or gold mining stock whenever you like, to increase your investments.

The other free time I have has been spent to building a new site and getting it ranked on Google. Its already ranking for some key words and is starting to get traffic. Oh yeah, sorry about the Excel 2003 version’s pivot tables not working. I just don’t have 2003 installed on my machine anymore. I have the disk image saved on my hard drive, but I’m just too lazy to install it to update this spreadsheet once a year. Just look on line for some lessons about pivot tables and then create on so it looks the same as the ones I’ve already done. You’ll be better off for it because pivot tables are one of Excel’s coolest features.

Shortly I’ll have the 2010 coins added to the spreadsheet and uploaded so everyone can download and track all the 2010 circulating coins. At that point I’ll probably rewrite the home page to be a little simpler (hopefully I won’t ruin my Google search rankings.) These guys are the best transmission shop in Provo, Utah. Not only are these guys good but they are straight forward and honest. Our car had the check engine light on with a speed sensor circuit code, which is a transmission problem, so the guys at Action Transmission checked it out and informed us why our speed sensor had failed. It turns out our transmission was falling apart and pieces of it were stuck to the magnet in the speed sensor. We were in some serious need of a new transmission. The way Action Transmission handled the whole thing was fantastic. They informed us of the problem then let us choose. They didn’t fix it and then inform me that I now owed them a million dollars. They called me up and let me choose what to do.

When I brought the kid that was going to buy my dying car from me to their shop they explained over and over the options for repair and how much they would cost. They were so good at honestly explaining what problems the car had and how much it would cost to fix. The helped me sell the car and not feel like I was cheating some kid out of his money just to unload my piece of junk Hyundai Sonata (never buy a Hyundai, this Review Provo Blog would be a lot shorter if I didn’t have to keep going to different car places to fix my dumb car.) The only negative aspect was that I got two slightly different pricing scenarios from the guy on the phone and the lady at the desk until til the guy and the phone walked into the office. But it was cleared up and things went peachy keen.

I really liked their shop. They had a transmission in their lobby that had been quarter cut so you could see all the gears and disks and things inside of it and how they meshed together. They also had a bunch of really helpful diagrams put up so you could see what each sensor did and what happens when it fails.
